A horrific crash in Logan on Sunday morning has claimed two lives and fire crews have cut another person from the wreckage of their car.

Emergency services were called to Waterford-Tamborine Road, near the intersection with Coplick Crescent, in Buccan just after 10.30am, and were confronted with a three-vehicle crash.

Police said a car travelling south crossed onto the wrong side of the road and hit a four-wheel-drive head-on. The four-wheel-drive flipped on impact and was then hit by an SUV.

An elderly man and woman in the first car were killed as a result of the crash, while the sole male occupant of the four-wheel-drive was cut from the wreckage and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Four people from the third vehicle, the SUV, also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital.

The road was closed beyond 3.30pm as the Forensic Crash Unit conducted their investigations, with northbound diversions along Stegemann Road and southbound traffic being directed onto Dairy Creek Road.

Australian Traffic Network reporter Olympia Kwitowski said there were significant delays in both directions along Waterford-Tamborine Road as a result, but these cleared by 1pm.

At the height of the delays, Ms Kwitowski said southbound traffic stretched back almost four kilometres to Easterly Street, while northbound congestion was back five kilometres to Quinzeh Creek Road.
