Big Bash Grand Final: Aaron Finch breaks chair, reaction, Renegades vs Stars

The Melbourne Renegades may have won the Big Bash grand final in dramatic fashion, but it was skipper Aaron Finch who stole the limelight.

In the all-Melbourne final the Renegades opener was sensationally sent on his way in the sixth over when a straight-drive from Cameron White was flicked onto the stumps off of Jackson Bird’s foot.

The freak moment left commentators and fans watching on in disbelief.

“That’s not run out is it?” Fox Cricket commentator Shane Warne said.

“Can you believe it Howie? That’s a shame. He looked in unbelievable touch, like the Aaron Finch of old today. You’ve got to be kidding.”

Adam Gilchrist agreed it was “stiff”.

But it was moments later that became the biggest talking point when Finch, on his way into the dressing rooms, swung and smashed a plastic chair.

His anger boiled over and he took his frustrations out on the nearest thing he could once he had walked off the ground.

But fans weren’t happy with the skipper for his savage display and were quick to rip him for setting a bad example for kids watching on.

The divisive moment became one of the biggest talking points from what turned out to be an almighty grand final clash between the two Melbourne sides.

Finch has endured a tough summer of cricket and looked to be in a good place in the early going before the disastrous moment struck.

Despite plenty of backlash over Finch’s actions, there was also a flood of support and even anger towards the host broadcasters for showing the moment which took place in the tunnel of Marvel Stadium.

The incredible grand final clash went down to the wire with the Melbourne Stars seemingly strolling towards victory after reaching 0-93 in chasing the Renegades’ 145 first innings total.

But in the blink of an eye it all fell apart for the Stars as they lost a stunning seven-wickets for 19 runs to watch the game slip through their fingers.

Finch’s moment of madness was pushed to the side as he celebrated the stunning win with his team. But there was still plenty of fun to be had at the skippers expense.
