Pat Cummins world’s number one Test bowler: Cricket news, Australia

Pat Cummins’ stunning comeback from injury has reached its pinnacle with the Australian quick landing at the top of the latest ICC Bowling Rankings.

The incredible feat follows a terrific summer from Cummins who helped lead the Aussie bowling attack against India and Sri Lanka.

Landing at number one on the rankings is rare air for Cummins as he becomes the first Australian bowler to do so since Glenn McGrath back in 2016.

Former number one Kagiso Rabada fell two places to third overall with both Cummins and England’s Jimmy Anderson jumping him in the standings.

Rabada drops to third following South Africa’s shock loss to Sri Lanka in Durban with the menacing quick claiming figures of 3-145.

Following his herculean efforts to guide Sri Lanka to the victory, Kusal Perera jumped an astonishing 58 places in the batting rankings to land at spot 40.

Mitchell Johnson came closest to gaining the top overall ranking when he hit number two in the standings in 2009.
