Peakhurst crash: Two women dead, man arrested after two-car smash

Two women have tragically died and a 20-year-old man has been arrested after a horror crash in Sydney’s south.

Emergency services rushed to Henry Lawson Drive in Peakhurst last night after reports of a two-vehicle crash.

Arriving at the horror scene, emergency services found a red Toyota LandCruiser flipped on its roof and a Honda Sedan with its front crushed.

Paramedics worked to save the female driver of the sedan, a 66-year-old woman, and her female passenger, a 62-year-old woman, but they died at the scene.

Members of the public worked with emergency services to free the two women, who were critical when paramedics arrived, but despite everyone’s best efforts, they were unable to be saved.

The two people sitting in the back seat, a 62-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man, were rushed to St George Hospital where they remain in a stable condition.

Less than half an hour after the fatal crash, the driver of the red Toyota LandCruiser, which police allege was stolen earlier in the night, was arrested nearby on Park St.

The 20-year-old man was also taken to St George Hospital for treatment and was later released to St George Police Station where officers gave him a breath test.

He remains under police guard at St George Hospital.

Officers from St George Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene, and officers from the Crash Investigation Unit spent the night investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

All westbound lanes on Henry Lawson Drive were closed for more than eight hours as police investigated the crash, with all lanes reopening just before 4am today.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
