Sydney Royal Easter Show 2019: Best and worst showbags revealed
They have elbows and they’re not afraid to use them — these are some of the lucky showbag testers for this year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Dozens of youngsters from Westmead, Randwick and the Royal Far West children’s hospitals snatched up their favourite bags on Wednesday for at a preview of the 358 showbags that will hit shelves at Sydney Showground on April 12.
Mia King, eight, from Penrith, was chuffed with her important mission as official showbag tester.
“I got the Squishie, Hubba Bubba and P! nk showbag,” she told The Daily Telegraph.
“She’s been counting down the days,” dad Jason said. “Mia was the first one up at home just ready to grab her favourite showbags.”
Eager to sport her new superhero costume, seven-year-old Mikayla Henness from Sydney’s South Coast says Wonder Woman is her role model.
“I’ve watched the movie so many times,” she said. “My favourite showbags are also Paw Patrol and Hatchimals.”
Dad Mick beamed with excitement.
“We haven’t been to the Show since MiKayla was born,” he said. “Now we’ve got heaps of sugar to fill her up with on the ride home.”
Seven-year-old Evander Conroy, from Hunter’s Hill, zoomed in on the popular bags: Kinder Surprise, Ryan’s World, Smarties and Jurassic World are all ranked among the Top 10 show bags, while the classic Bertie Beetle Blue bag ($2) is listed among the “top five under $10.”
Evander’s mother said there was no way he was missing the testing event, despite being in a wheelchair.
“He looks forward to the Showbag preview, mainly so he can grab his favourites — Deadpool and Where’s Wally,” she said. “It’s a really special day for him.”
Showgoers will be spoiled for choice this year and can expect amazing value with Showbags ranging from $2 to $40.
“New showbags Hatchimals, Jurassic World and Riverdale will be incredibly popular with the kids this year, and there are some great bargains to be had with 110 Showbags costing $10 or less,” operations and product development manager Shane McGrath said.
“Whether you go for the crowd favourite Bertie Beetle bag, or have a keen eye for fashion or video games, we have something for everyone, the young and young at heart.”
The Royal Easter Show runs April 12-23.
