Married At First Sight 2019: Martha admits she feels like a ‘twit’
Married At First Sight star Martha Kalifatidis has opened up about her regret over defending Jessika Power’s behaviour as her shocking affair scandal played out.
During Sunday night’s commitment ceremony, Jessika and Dan Webb finally came clean about their secret hook-ups, opting to leave their respective partners — Mick Gould and Tamara Joy — and asking to continue in the experiment together.

As the group turned on the cheating pair, Martha staunchly defended her friend Jessika — but after watching how the affair actually happened, she now regrets her decision.
“Knowing what I know now, I feel like an absolute twit defending Jess because she was quite ruthless in the way she went about what she did,” Martha told 9Honey.
“Like I did stress to her, ‘There is a right way to do this, and I think you should tell Mick and just be clear with Mick because Mick would be so happy if you said you wanted to leave and you were done with him’.”
“I think Jess’ circumstances were a bit different (to Ines’),” she says. “Her and Mick were not getting on for a long time. I could see Jess’ self-esteem was breaking down. Her spirit was — she was becoming dull. She wasn’t as happy. Jess has this infectious energy. If she’s happy, everyone’s happy.
“I feel like I did support her to find happiness, but do I think that she went around it in the right way? Probably not. She didn’t. I think she knows that now too. Hindsight is a beautiful thing. Looking back you really see and understand things a lot clearer. I think I could have been a bit more stern with the advice that I gave her and the fact that it’s wrong.”
During the tense fallout after the affair was revealed in the commitment ceremony, Martha went head-to-head with Mick as he tore strips off Jessika.
“It’s old mate here (Jessika) who’s wasted two months of my life because she’s not here for the right reasons,” he told the group angrily, prompting Martha’s furious response.
“Mick, you signed up to do this, mate. You knew what it was going to be, how much time it was going to be, you knew what you were doing when you did it. It’s the risk that you take when you sign up to do it, mate.”
Married At First Sight continues 7.30pm tonight on Nine.
