Allison Mack: Smallville actor pleads guilty for NXIVM sex cult charges
Former Smallville star Allison Mack on Monday pleaded guilty for her role in sex-slave cult Nxivm.
A sobbing Mack, 36, appeared before a judge in Brooklyn federal court, where she copped to racketeering and racketeering conspiracy charges — including extortion and forced labour — just hours before jury selection was set to begin in her case, the New York Post reported.
“I must take full responsibility for my conduct. I am very sorry for my role in this case. I am very sorry to my family and to the good people I hurt through my misguided adherence to [Nxivm leader] Keith Raniere’s teachings,” Mack told the court.
Mack confessed to being part of a secret master-slave group within Nxivm called DOS, admitting that she kept a slave and instructed women in the group “to perform services for me.”
She said the system was “designed to make them think they could suffer serious harm” if they didn’t perform the services — because they’d handed over damaging collateral to DOS such as nude photos and financial details.
Prosecutors allege that women in DOS were kept on starvation diets, branded with Raniere’s initials and groomed to have sex with him.
Mack is facing 20 years in prison under the charges she pleaded guilty to Monday. It was not clear if she has a co-operation deal with the government, and her lawyers declined to comment.
Mack was among six people arrested last year over their roles in Nxivm, including Raniere and Seagram’s liquor heiress Claire Bronfman, who helped fund the organisation with her vast fortune.
Nxivm co-founder Nancy Salzman and her daughter Lauren Salzman both pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy charges for their involvement in the group last month.
Lauren was also a “master” in DOS — and has admitted to keeping her own personal slave locked in a room for two years — while Nancy confessed to hacking into emails of the group’s perceived enemies and destroying evidence that could be used against it.
