NRL 2019 Round 5: South Sydney Rabbitohs v Warriors, Cody Walker four tries, video, Damien Cook

“He’s a special talent,” Braith Anasta said.

And no one would dare disagree.

Cody Walker had scored two tries and the Rabbitohs were down 24-12 against the Warriors with 62 minutes on the clock.

Time was running out, but energy was not.

Walker and his zippy dummy-half Damien Cook kicked into gear.

The first hat-trick of Walker’s career was to come in the 73rd minute to level the scores, followed by one more in the 78th for good measure.

It just happened to be the match-winner.

NRL: Storm great Cameron Smith became the highest point scorer in the history of the game as Melbourne made it five wins in a row with a hard-fought 18-12 victory over North Queensland in Townsville.

True to character, he was modest when asked about it on Fox League after the game.

“It’s been an awesome day. We were pretty disappointed in some parts of our game and we sort of let ourselves down with silly errors and pushing passes.

“I don’t think we’ve put together an 80 minute performance since the Roosters game, there’s areas to improve but we’re happy with the two points.”

Like all the good players, he looked as though he could turn the game by just deciding to do so.

And his partnership with Cook out of dummy half, one of the most exciting in the game. Two of the tries it took to take down the Warriors were laid on by Cook — the other two, a product of his own individual brilliance.

“[Cook is]pretty quick, he’s hard to keep up with. I failed to do that last weekend and I wasn’t pushing as much as I usually do.

“That was one of my goals today to keep pushing up for the ball.

“I need a head start sometimes because he’s too quick. I was happy to get away with that.”
