Shane Watson to headline Euro T20 Slam tournament
Shane Watson is continuing to tick cities of the world off his playing list after signing on for the inaugural Euro T20 Slam which will be played across the Netherlands, Scotland and Ireland.
Having recently announced his retirement from the Big Bash, Watson joined fellow Aussie T20 slugger Chris Lynn and former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum among the six players confirmed for the six-team competition.
Now 37, Watson remains one of the best T20 batsmen in the world, and has racked up another 250 runs for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League this season.
Watson was arguably the highest-profile Australian player available for the entire 2018-19 BBL season, with Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell missing games because of national duty.
The two-time Allan Border medallist was a household name during his international career that spanned 59 Tests, 190 ODIs and 58 T20s. “I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart who has been involved with the Sydney Thunder over the last four seasons,” Watson said. “I have so many amazing memories that I will savour forever.”
The Euro T20 Slam will feature teams from Dublin, Belfast, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Glasgow and Edinburgh for a 30-macth season.
The games will be spread across venues in Amsterdam, Dublin and Ediburgh in August and September this year.
