UNLOCK the potential of Forrest’s former post office and telephone exchange for a fraction of Geelong’s median house price.

Smyth, Apollo Bay agent Noel Tanis is quoting $150,000-plus for the rundown house that would be an ideal site for a holiday getaway or permanent base.

Mr Tanis said there was potential to renovate the building that was once part of a thriving town centre or demolish and start again.

“There is good interest coming from Geelong and a little bit from Melbourne,” he said.

“It’s in a good spot, it’s got a nice outlook and a lot of potential.

“People are looking at it as a holiday retreat.”

He said 15 years ago you “couldn’t give a place away” in Forrest but the town had grown in popularity since reinventing itself as a mountain bike destination.

The vacant block next door, at 30 Station St, Forrest, will also be auctioned.

The 788sq m block at 32 Station St, Forrest will be auctioned on June 1 at 1.30pm with a neighbouring vacant allotment of 813sq m at 30 Station St to be offered separately at 1.45pm.

The vacant block is expected to fetch $120,000-plus.
