Expectant parents dig deep to secure riverside locale for growing family
THE chance to buy in Highton’s Queens Park precinct is a dream come true for a Newcomb couple who beat four bidders for a sought-after family home.
Reece and Emily Messina outlasted the competition at Saturday’s auction of 1 Cannes Court to secure the four-bedroom house for $624,000.
The result beat prices hopes by almost $45,000 as a string of $1000 and $500 bids from multiple quarters left the crowd hanging until the hammer fell.
“It’s a dream come true,” Mrs Messina said of the cross-town move.
Her husband said with a family on the way, the ability to walk to the Barwon River and Queens Park was a big attraction.
“I’m going to be down there every day,” he said.
The brick house, on a 645sq m block, has been updated and offers two living areas and two bathrooms.
Buxton agent Tony Moorfoot kicked off the auction with a vendor bid of $540,000 and advised the crowd the house was on the market at $580,000.
He said the property ticked so many boxes for families, starting with the court location.
“It’s so close to the Barwon River, Queens Park, the golf course,” Mr Moorfoot said.
“It’s a very, very sought-after location on the fringe of Newtown across from some very, very good schools.”
