Greenvale auction sees knockout bid by confident first-home buyers

First-home buyers were attracted to this Greenvale property.

A knockout bid from an unlikely source just as the hammer was about to fall stunned onlookers at a Greenvale auction.

Two groups of first-home buyers vied with a downsizer for the keys to 7 Vidos Rd, which topped vendor expectations by $30,000.

“There was a bid at $695,000 – it was about to be sold and then there was one bid straight to $720,000,” Ray White Gladstone Park director Phillip Mercieca said.

“Usually buyers do the opposite when it’s announced on the market. To get a knockout bid – we haven’t seen that confidence from first-home buyers for quite some time.”

It was a case of history repeating itself at the address, with the vendors selling their first home, which they built five years ago.

Yaz and Neyat, who asked not to use their surnames, sold the four-bedroom house to move closer to the city and family, with their son now six months old.

“We put our blood, sweat and tears into this house so we were very nervous putting it on the market,” Yaz said.

“You want someone to love your house like you do, so we were nervous about what people were going to think – but we ended up finding the perfect buyers.”

Yaz said the reserve-topping price gave the young family more options for their next steps.

“We haven’t yet purchased anything else,” she said.

“Now we’re like, ‘OK, what can we do, now the world is our oyster?’ ”

Building another home is “definitely” on the cards in the future, Yaz said.

Mr Mercieca said first-home buyers and upsizers had shown most interest in the Vidos Rd property.

“Within that bracket of anywhere from $500,000 up to $800,000, our market’s always been driven by first-home buyers trying to get into the market, whether it be buying land and building or buying established.”
