Police give go-ahead to memorial prayer meeting

Police have given the green-light to a prayer meeting to be held on Saturday evening in Tamar Park. It is in memory of Chow Tsz-lok, the 22-year-old university student who died on Friday, four days after suffering critical injuries from an apparent fall from a car park near protest clashes in Tseung Kwan O.

Chow’s death sparked clashes overnight between anti-government protesters and police. Police say they had nothing to do with Chow’s death.

On Friday, the president of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where Chow studied computer science, called for an independent probe into Chow’s death. Wei Shyy also demanded a police explanation for a delay in Chow getting treatment.

The police have said new CCTV footage has come to light showing Chow wandering alone in the car park for more than half an hour on Sunday night before he walked up from the second to the third, from where they believe he fell.
