Teacher found dead after student attacked him with a chair


Teaching assistant Lee Sims, 3,1 was found dead on Sunday morning after being “hit with a chair by a pupil”.

Mr Sims’ body was found at a house in Brackla Bridgend, a small township in Wales, UK.

A post-mortem examination found no evidence of assault or injury, but the Mirror reported that he had been “hit with a chair by a pupil”.

The father-of-three’s “unexplained” death is being investigated by police who said that an inquest would be held in due course.

Tributes are already flowing in on social media describing Mr Lee as a “top boy”.

One friend wrote: “Absolute terrible news, thinking of you and the family, Lee was a top boy, I’m gutted.”

Another friend, Laura Webb, said: “Thinking of you all. I only spoke to lee a few times at the rugby and he was a lovely boy xx sending all my love.”

Mr Sims worked at Ysgol Bryn Castell, a community day special school with 147 pupils, in Bridgend Wales.

The school provides education for pupils aged seven to 19 who have complex emotional, social and behavioural special educational needs.

It was closed on Monday as officers investigated Mr Sims’ death, with the head teacher Helen Ridout posting it on Twitter.

A parent of a child at the school expressed devastation at the news and said her heart went out to the family.

“They are an amazing staff who make our children a part of their family,” she said.

“My thoughts are with the family of the member of staff who has died and all the staff at Ysgol Bryn Castell at this time of immense devastation.”

Cabinet member for education and regeneration at Bridgend Council, Charles Smith, put out a statement about the incident with the chair and said the priority was the welfare of the family.

“There was an incident with a pupil earlier in the week and the teacher has died later,” he said.

“The school is closed today while investigations are made and police are involved.

“Our first concern is the welfare of the teacher’s family. Pupils are getting support.”
