TCMF2020: Campers arrive early to secure the best spots at the festival

news, latest-news,

A SMALL army of campervans has rolled into town just weeks before Tamworth Country Music Festival. Grey nomads at the helm; commanders of the fold-out chair and masters of the camp barbecue. At Paradise Caravan Park, David Riddell and Elaine Walton have tackled a five-day slog from Perth, Western Australia to come to the country music capital. Mr Riddell’s been before, but it’s Ms Walton’s first time at the festival. “I’ve always wanted to come, it’s just that I love country music and I wanted to be where the atmosphere is,” she said. Mr Riddell arrives early to get his usual spot under a tree. His top pick for the festival is Adam Harvey’s show. “It’s just the noise and people I like,” he said. The cabins are the park are already fully booked, from January 1 it’s first-in, best-dressed for the van sites. It’s assistant manager Dee Larcombe’s first time at the caravan park during festival, and said she can’t wait to enjoy it with tourists. “A lot of people travel long distances to come here and some like to stay in Tamworth for the whole of January,” she said. “Going on previous years I’m led to believe we will be very full.” Tamworth is on Level 5 water restrictions, which means guests cannot use water outdoors, wash cars or take long showers. Luckily everyone seems to be pretty conscious of how precious water is in regional NSW, Ms Larcombe said. “Our guests generally are aware of the water restrictions whether it’s country music or not,” she said. “A lot of people come with their own water on board and are obviously compliant with the requirements we have. “They know they have to have quick showers while they’re here, they’re also very aware of the fire situation.” Read also: This year marks the festival’s 48th in Tamworth, and is expected to see more than 300,000 people visit the city across the 10 days. Tamworth Country Music Festival boasts more than 700 artists, 2800 shows and the iconic Toyota Golden Guitar Awards. Want more local news? Subscribe to the Leader to read it here first
