Australian Open semi-finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas eyes Kooyong Classic
Stefanos Tsitsipas and a string of other leading internationals could join the Kooyong Classic next week to hone Australian Open preparations.
A semi-finalist last season at Melbourne Park, Tsitsipas is considering a match at the AgBioEn Classic alongside Nick Kyrgios, Grigor Dimitrov, Milos Raonic, Marin Cilic, Richard Gasquet, Soonwoo Kwon and Borna Coric.
Kooyong tournament director Peter Johnston said the ATP Cup had left some players with plenty of match-play, while others are looking for more.

“With the ATP Cup this year, it is a bit of a rollercoaster when it comes to putting together the men’s player field here,” he said.
“A player can have between three and six matches in ATP Cup, so it can be a tough week for some.
“And the end game is ensuring you have the right preparation for the Australian Open.
“Now the (ATP Cup) round-robin (phase) is over, we’ve had a lot of inquiries from players looking for matches in the last few days.
“We had saved a little bit of room for last-minute inclusions, but not much and our field is amazing.
“I know Tsitsipas and a few others are considering it and are assessing their plans and we are just waiting to see if Kooyong works for them.”
The women’s line-up is headed by former world No 1s and grand slam champions Caroline Wozniacki and Maria Sharapova.
Queensland’s Ajla Tomljanovic and CoCo Vandeweghe have also entered.
Kooyong sponsor AgBioEn has pledged a minimum of $10,000 to fire ravaged communities.
AgBioEn director Lubey Lozevski said the Classic would “deliver a full certified carbon neutral event.”
The tournament will feature the introduction of Point Bank, a “score monitoring system which increases the interest in each and every point without compromising the basics of the sport.”
The Classic runs from Tuesday to Thursday.
