Privacy and charm in a country classic that’s built to last
Their 1870s five-bedroom Houghton homestead has been much more than just a house to Tania and Richard Boksmati and their family during the past eight years – it’s been a idyllic haven in which they’ve built a lifetime of memories.
And now they’re ready to let new owners become part of the 16ha property’s story, from its early-morning bird calls and sense of seclusion – despite being just three minutes to Tea Tree Gully – to its light-filled open-plan family living and mix of old and new interior design features.
“I just remember the first time I stepped foot on the property and I walked around on the veranda and caught a glimpse of the front garden I was just completely captivated,” Ms Boksmati says. “It’s really quite private and secure … but still accessible to the city.
“You’ve kind of got the best of both worlds – and as you drive down Rehn Rd you can feel the stresses of the city being left behind.
“Every morning we get the most incredible sunrises and beautiful birdlife and an abundance of koalas – it’s fantastic.”
The Boksmatis have fenced the property for horses, but it could lend itself to a multitude of uses, Ms Boksmati says. “Because the property has its own water supply, I think it provides great possibilities,” she says. “It has been used in the past for orchards and livestock and it was also a dairy at one stage – there’s still a part of the old dairy left that’s quite charming.
“We’ve had the most wonderful time here … but I see it now as a great opportunity for someone else – and I hope they can enjoy it as much as we have.”
