NFL 2020: Tom Brady viral tweet, future speculation, rumour, Super Bowl, start time, how to watch

Tom Brady has shown he’s still got it after stealing the media cycle the weekend before the Super Bowl.

The six-time Super Bowl Champion posted a tweet on Friday with a black and white image of him walking out onto the field.

With reports and speculation he could be leaving the New England Patriots, the team he’s played all 20 years of his NFL career with, it was like a lit match in a dynamite factory for the internet — and it exploded.

On Twitter, the original post has over 13,000 comments, 23,000 retweets and just shy of 175,000 likes despite having no text.

It’s unknown where Brady is, whether it’s at Gillette Stadium or another, whether it means he’s coming back, walking into another fan base’s hearts or walking away from the game altogether.

Some even believe it was a super cryptic tweet relating to Kobe Bryant’s death.

Kobe once filmed a Nike commercial with a very similar motif with him walking down a tunnel in a dark arena.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the image was “not related to Tom Brady’s football future”, and that turned out to be correct — or so Brady would have fans believe.

While Brady tries to keep things close to his chest, he reportedly told teammates Devin and Jason McCourty, who tried to settle the rumours on Barstool Radio on Friday.

“We both actually FaceTimed Tom. We were like, ‘Bro, we’re at the Super Bowl. Why would you do this?’,” Devin said. “And he was like, ‘Everybody’s overreacting.’ He’s like, ‘It’s not is he going to stay, is he going to go?’ He was like, ‘Bro, I’m 42 years old, one of the oldest guys in the league, (and I) wanted to remind people that the best photos are in black and white.’

“That’s all its was, bro. Black and white. It’s a classic — like, I’m the classic Tom Brady, black and white, put it all together, I’m still out here doing it.”

Everyone satisfied? Didn’t think so.

With Brady eligible to become a free agent in March, the 42-year-old superstar has been toying with fans all off-season.

After the Pats loss to the Tennessee Titans, Brady posted a lengthy message on Instagram to thank New England fans, ending it with: “I still have more to prove.”

Brady was also snapped with Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis at UFC 246, which is reportedly the most likely fit for the legend.

Other teams reportedly interest include the LA Chargers, Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the latter two teams with the most salary cap room entering the off-season.

A day later, Brady told Westwood One he was “open-minded” about leaving the Patriots.

“At the same time, I love playing football and I want to continue to play and do a great job. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead. Whatever the future may bring, I’ll embrace it with open arms,” Brady said.

Brady also moved his family into a $13 million Connecticut, home after listing their 10,000-square-foot mansion in Massachusetts for sale in 2019. The move led many to believe he would not rejoin the team next season.

At this point, it’s not clear where he’s going to be in 2021 with Patriots owner Robert Kraft said in an interview last month that he wants Brady to stay.

“I love the young man like he’s part of my family,” Kraft told NBC Sports’ Peter King. “Blood family. Anyone who’s done that has earned the right to control his future after 20 years. And you know, my hope and prayer is number one, he play for the Patriots. Or number two, he retires. He has the freedom to decide what he wants to do, and what’s in his own best personal interest.”

But if he’s looking for some advice, he can look to legendary QB Joe Montana, who played 14 years at the San Francisco 49ers before playing his last two years at the Kansas City Chiefs.

Speaking to AP Podcasts, Montana said it’s a complicated decision with Brady needed to make the choice that’s best for him.

“Transition isn’t always as easy as you think,” Montana said. “For me, it was a lot easier because I went to a great organisation, great fanbase, great teammates, we should have gone to another Super Bowl there.

“Unless they give him full rein over the offence, what he’s done for that area and that team and that organisation…maybe there’s inner workings going on behind there that no one knows about and that’s why he wants to leave but he has to make own mind up on what’s best for him.

“But in retrospect, I wish they would have given me the opportunity to stay instead of trying to make me make the decision to leave.”
