Hunter New England Health (HNEH) figures show the entire health district saw just eight new cases, a rise from 200 cases to 208. Eleven cases were reported in the HNEH area in the 24 hours to Sunday night, showing a slower spread of the infection. Already, 9112 people have been tested for COVID-19 across the HNEH area with 2.28 per cent testing positive. On Tuesday, HNEH confirmed another patient had been admitted to hospital for treatment of COVID 19. “Currently 12 COVID-19 patients are being cared for in our hospitals, seven in ICU. Of the 208 cases, 33 have recovered so far,” a HNEH spokesperson said. Of the 208 cases, 165 people contracted COVID-19 from overseas; 26 others contracted the infection from a close contact of a confirmed case; and 12 people have acquired the case locally, but authorities can’t determine where. Five other cases are still under investigation. Authorities still can’t determine where two people in Tenterfield contracted the virus, with the cases remaining on a locally acquired from an unknown source area list.
