Oxley police pursuit: Woman charged with police pursuit with three young children in car near Narrabri | The Northern Daily Leader

A WOMAN is accused of leading police on a high-speed chase with three young children in the car, including one without a seatbelt. The 32-year-old is behind bars on Friday morning, set to front court on charges connected to Thursday night’s late-night chase. Oxley police said they attempted to stop a Mazda MPV travelling west on Yarrie Lake Road at Narrabri, about 9.30pm. Officers claimed the car failed to stop and a pursuit was launched. READ ALSO: Police allege the car hit speeds of 170km per hour in a 100 zone, before it slowed down and pulled onto the shoulder of the road. Officers said a man was seen to jump from the front passenger seat and run from police. A short time later, the Mazda stopped on Bridge Street where the 32-year-old woman behind the wheel was arrested. Police said three children, including a four-month-old girl, a two-year-old boy and a seven-year-old boy, were in the backseat. Police will allege the youngest boy was not restrained at the time. The woman was taken to Narrabri police station and questioned by officers before being charged with police pursuit – Skye’s Law while driving dangerously; exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km per hour; and drive with a child under four not restrained. The woman was denied bail by police and spent the night in custody. She will front Moree Local Court on Friday. Police said the children were placed into the care of relatives and a child at risk notification has been made. Officers confirmed investigations to track down the male passenger are continuing.
